What This Tool Does
Use this browser-based calculator to estimate an auto-loan payment and repayment schedule. It uses the vehicle price, trade-in, tax, fees, APR, term, and optional extra payment to show the financing breakdown, cash due at signing, total interest, and amortization schedule.
Enter Your Loan Details
Enter values in the same order as the form. Vehicle price ($), Annual interest rate / APR (%), and Loan term (months) are required. Blank optional numeric fields are treated as zero.
- Enter the vehicle price and down payment.
- Enter the trade-in value and Trade-in loan payoff ($), if applicable.
- Enter Sales tax rate (%) and Title, registration & doc fees ($). Leave Roll tax & fees into the loan checked to finance them; clear it to include them in cash due at signing.
- Enter the APR and whole-number loan term. Optionally enter Extra payment per month ($, optional).
How the Calculator Handles the Amount Financed
Trade-in equity is calculated as Trade-in value - Trade-in payoff. A negative result means the payoff is higher than the trade-in value and increases the amount financed.
The taxable amount is max(Vehicle price - Trade-in value, 0). The entered sales-tax rate is applied to that amount. The calculator uses this fixed rule; it has no jurisdiction selector or live tax lookup, so verify the applicable tax treatment and rate separately.
Cash due at signing is Down payment + (Tax + Fees, if not rolled in). The amount financed is Vehicle price - Down payment - Trade-in equity + (Tax + Fees, if rolled in). If that result is negative, the calculator sets Amount financed to zero.
Calculate and Read the Results
Select Calculate to generate the result. The headline figures include Scheduled monthly payment, Total interest paid, Amount financed, and Cash due at signing. The financing breakdown also lists Actual months to payoff, Total of all loan payments, and Total cost (cash due + all payments).
The schedule shows each payment's principal, interest, and remaining balance. An extra payment is applied to principal and can shorten payoff. The headline Scheduled monthly payment remains the base payment; the final schedule row can be smaller when the balance is paid off.
Validation and Limitations
The calculator requires a vehicle price greater than 0, an APR from 0 to 100, and a whole-number term from 1 to 120 months. Down payment, trade-in values and payoff, fees, and extra payment must be 0 or greater. Sales tax must be from 0 to 25. Invalid values stop the calculation and show an error.
Outputs are estimates based on the entered figures and the implemented amortization calculation. The tool does not check lender approval or credit, price insurance, estimate live tax rates, or project vehicle depreciation.
Copy or Download the Result
After calculating, select Copy result to copy the summary and schedule. If clipboard access fails, the tool displays "Could not copy - select and copy manually." and selects the result text for manual copying. Select Download result (.txt) to download the same plain-text result.
Privacy & Security
The calculator script performs the calculation in your browser. The inspected page also loads Ahrefs and conditionally Google Analytics scripts; the local files do not establish whether those analytics scripts receive calculator field values. Do not treat this page as a promise that entered values are never observed or transmitted.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is the amount financed calculated?
Amount financed is Vehicle price - Down payment - Trade-in equity + (Sales tax + Title/registration/doc fees, if rolled into the loan). Trade-in equity is the trade-in value minus any amount still owed on it. If the calculated amount is negative, the tool sets it to zero.
How is sales tax calculated?
Sales tax = max(Vehicle price - Trade-in value, 0) x Tax rate / 100. The tool applies the rate you enter to this capped amount; it does not provide a live or jurisdiction-specific tax lookup.
What is the difference between cash due at signing and the amount financed?
Cash due at signing is the down payment plus tax and fees you choose not to roll into the loan. The amount financed is the balance borrowed and repaid over the term with interest.
How is the monthly payment calculated?
For an APR above 0, Payment = Amount financed x r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n), where r = APR / 100 / 12 and n is the loan term in months. At 0% APR, payment is Amount financed / Loan term.
What happens when I enter an extra monthly payment?
The extra amount is applied to principal each month. It can reduce Actual months to payoff and the total paid, while Scheduled monthly payment remains the base payment.
Does this tool check loan approval, insurance, or vehicle depreciation?
No. It performs a mathematical financing calculation using the numbers you enter. It does not estimate live sales tax rates, check lender approval or credit, price insurance, or project vehicle depreciation or resale value.
