Age Calculator

Enter a date of birth to calculate the exact age as of today or any target date - in calendar years, months, and days, plus total days, weeks, and months, with a countdown to the next birthday. The formula, every assumption, and intermediate values are shown alongside the result.

The date to calculate age from.

Leave empty to use today's date.

How to Use the Age Calculator

Enter a date of birth to calculate an exact calendar age. You can leave Calculate age as of (optional) empty to use the browser's current date, or enter another target date.

  1. Enter the date of birth: the date to calculate age from.
  2. Enter Calculate age as of (optional): leave it empty for the browser's current calendar date, or choose another date.
  3. Click Calculate age.
  4. Use Copy result or Download result (.txt) if you need to reuse the result.

What the Result Shows

The result includes the exact age in years, months, and days, plus date-based totals and birthday details.

  • Total days lived, full weeks, and the remaining day count between the two dates. With a future target date, these are date differences rather than a record of days already lived.
  • Approximate total months, displayed to two decimal places.
  • The weekday of birth, next birthday date, and days until that birthday.
  • A formula line and a table of calculated values.

How the Calculation Works

The exact breakdown counts whole calendar years, then whole months, then remaining days. It uses the actual length of each calendar month rather than treating every month as 30 days.

Approximate total months is calculated as total days / 30.436875 and rounded to two decimal places. Full weeks use floored division by 7, with the remaining days shown separately. This estimate is not interchangeable with the exact years/months/days result.

Important Date Rules

  • If the target date is empty, it defaults to the browser's current local calendar date.
  • A target date before the date of birth stops the calculation and shows an error.
  • For the next-birthday calculation, a February 29 birthday uses March 1 in non-leap years. This fallback does not change the exact years/months/days breakdown.
  • Future target dates are accepted when they are not before the date of birth.

Copy or Download the Result

Copy result places the plain-text result on the clipboard. Download result (.txt) creates a plain-text download containing the calculated summary and date-based values.

Limits and Data Handling

The calculator performs date arithmetic in browser JavaScript. The page disclaimer says the result is not medical, legal, or eligibility advice and does not apply jurisdiction-specific rules for age of majority, benefits, retirement, or similar purposes.

The page also loads Ahrefs Analytics and Google Analytics through imported assets. The calculator code uses the entered dates for its calculation, but this page implementation does not establish whether analytics receives field values.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is exact age calculated?

Age is calculated by walking the calendar from the date of birth to the target date, counting whole years, then whole months, then remaining days - the same way you would count age by hand, using the actual number of days in each month rather than a fixed 30-day assumption.

Can I calculate age as of a date other than today?

Yes. Leave the target date field empty to calculate age as of today, or enter any other date to see how old someone was, is, or will be on that specific date.

What happens if I was born on February 29?

For the next-birthday calculation, the calculator uses March 1 in non-leap years because February 29 does not exist in those years. This fallback does not change the exact years/months/days breakdown.

What if the target date is before the date of birth?

Calculation stops and a clear error message is shown, since a target date before the date of birth cannot produce a valid age.

How are total months and weeks calculated?

Total days between the two dates is divided by 7 for full weeks (with a remainder in days) and by 30.436875 - the average calendar month length over a 400-year Gregorian cycle - for an approximate total months figure, shown alongside the exact years/months/days breakdown, not in place of it.
