How to Use the Pressure Calculator
Enter the force and area, choose their units, and calculate the result. The calculator converts the inputs to newtons and square meters, then shows pressure in pascals and additional units.
- Enter a force in Force (F) and choose a Force unit.
- Enter an area in Area (A) and choose an Area unit.
- Click Calculate to show the pressure and calculation steps.
- Use Copy result or Download result (.txt) to keep the displayed result.
- Click Reset to clear both inputs and errors, restore Newtons (N) and Square meters (m²), and hide the result.
Accepted Inputs and Validation
Use the accepted decimal-number syntax for both inputs. Exponent notation such as 1e3 and comma-formatted numbers such as 1,000 are not accepted. Each raw force or area value must be no more than 1e12 in absolute value.
- Force may be zero or positive.
- Area must be greater than zero.
- Force options are newtons (N), kilonewtons (kN), pound-force (lbf), kilogram-force (kgf), and dynes.
- Area options are square meters (m²), square centimeters (cm²), square millimeters (mm²), square feet (ft²), and square inches (in²).
How Pressure Is Calculated
The calculator uses P = F ÷ A. It converts force to newtons and area to square meters, calculates the pressure in pascals, and converts that result for the displayed kilopascals, bar, atmospheres, psi, mmHg, and torr values.
Local Calculation and Data Scope
The calculation script processes the values you enter locally in your browser and does not send those entered values for the calculation. This statement applies to the calculator script; it does not describe all data handling by the page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What number formats can I enter?
Enter a decimal number. Exponent notation and comma-formatted numbers are not accepted, and each raw input must be no more than 1e12 in absolute value.
What units does this calculator support?
Force can be entered in newtons, kilonewtons, pound-force, kilogram-force, or dynes. Area can be entered in square meters, square centimeters, square millimeters, square feet, or square inches. The result is shown in pascals, kilopascals, bar, atmospheres, psi, mmHg, and torr.
What happens when I click Reset?
Reset clears the force and area inputs, removes errors, restores Newtons (N) and Square meters (m²), and hides the result.
Can force or area be zero or negative?
Area must be a positive number greater than zero, since dividing by zero or a negative area is undefined for this calculation. Force may be zero, in which case the resulting pressure is zero, but it cannot be negative.
What does the calculator not model?
It applies only P = F ÷ A. It does not model hydrostatic pressure from fluid depth, atmospheric pressure, temperature effects, or other additional pressure sources.
