Use the translator
Choose English → Pig Latin to encode text or Pig Latin → English to decode it. Type or paste text into the input box, or click Upload to choose a .txt/text/plain file. You can also drop a text file anywhere on this page. The output keeps line breaks and spacing from the input.
Choose conversion settings
Set the controls before converting. Encoding uses the consonant, vowel, capitalization, punctuation, and separator choices. When decoding, match the encoded text's Vowel-start suffix, Separator, and Treat "y" as settings. Capitalization primarily affects encoding; during decoding, Match original word and Preserve each letter's case as-is use the detected case pattern, while Force lowercase lowercases the result. Consonant cluster and Treat "qu" as one consonant unit do not change decoding. Punctuation affects encoding only; decoding retains punctuation with the token.
- Vowel-start suffix: add
way, yay, orhayto vowel-start words. - Consonant cluster: move the whole leading cluster or only its first consonant during encoding.
- Treat "y" as: make
ya vowel always, a consonant always, or a consonant only at the start. - Treat "qu" as one consonant unit: keep
qutogether when encoding. - Capitalization: during encoding, match the original word, preserve each letter's case, or force lowercase. During decoding, the first two options use the detected case pattern; Force lowercase lowercases the result.
- Punctuation: during encoding, keep trailing punctuation after the suffix or move it before the suffix. Decoding retains punctuation but does not use this selector.
- Separator: use no separator or insert a hyphen in encoded output.

Supported text and limitations
The converter recognizes tokens with an ASCII-letter core and optional internal apostrophes, such as don't. Non-ASCII characters and digits can remain attached while a matching ASCII core is transformed. Tokens that cannot match one letter core, such as the hyphenated well-known, are reported as unsupported. In encoding, a word without a vowel is also reported as unsupported and left partially unchanged.
Punctuation stays attached to its word, but Punctuation controls whether trailing punctuation stays after the suffix or moves before it. Decoding without a separator can be ambiguous; the tool marks those words and shows alternate readings. A hyphen changes encoded output, but the current decoder treats hyphenated tokens as unsupported, so do not rely on hyphenated output for a round trip.
Frequently asked questions
What is Pig Latin?
Pig Latin is an English word-play game, not a real language. Consonant-start words move their leading consonant cluster to the end and add ay; vowel-start words get a suffix such as way.
Is decoding Pig Latin back to English always accurate?
Not always. A word such as agway can have more than one plausible reconstruction. The tool chooses a likely reading, lists alternatives, and marks the word as ambiguous. Hyphenated output is not currently a reliable round trip because the decoder treats it as unsupported.
Does this tool translate other languages into Pig Latin?
No. Its rules use English spelling patterns, so it is a word-play transformation for English text rather than a general language translator.
Does it preserve capitalization and punctuation?
During encoding, you can match original casing, preserve each letter's case, or force lowercase. During decoding, Match original word and Preserve each letter's case as-is use the encoded word's detected case pattern, while Force lowercase lowercases the result. Punctuation changes punctuation placement during encoding only; decoding retains punctuation with the token.
How can I load a text file?
Click Upload and choose a .txt/text/plain file, or drop a file on Drop file.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript, and the page does not send the text or uploaded file to AllOverTools servers.
