Extract hostnames from URLs, text, or HTML
Paste text or load a file to scan raw content for hostname-shaped matches. The tool returns hosts such as example.com, without protocols, paths, query strings, or fragments. It scans HTML source as text; it does not parse or validate HTML as a document.
How to extract domain names
- Paste content into the input area, or select Upload and choose a picker-supported file.
- Adjust Unique only, Lowercase (normalize case), Strip www prefix, and Keep subdomains.
- Check the result count, then review the host, source line, and context.
- Use Copy or Download when the output is ready.
Choose the extraction options
- Unique only keeps the first formatted occurrence in input order. Clear it to preserve duplicate occurrences. Deduplication happens after the selected formatting options are applied.
- Lowercase (normalize case) converts the returned host to lowercase.
- Strip www prefix removes a leading
www.. - Keep subdomains retains labels such as
mail., subject to the other selected controls. When it is disabled, the tool applies its built-in suffix rules to reduce the hostname.
Supported files and drop behavior
The Upload picker advertises .txt, .csv, .json, .log, .html, and .htm. The parser reads selected files as raw text. You can also drop a file onto the input area; dropped files are read as text without an extension check.
Review, copy, or download results
The result count reports the returned hosts. The results table shows Host, Line, and Context. The output area contains one host per line. Select Copy to copy it, or Download to save a plain-text file named domains.txt.
Detection limits
The tool first finds hostname-shaped text, then keeps candidates whose final label appears in its non-exhaustive built-in KNOWN_TLDS set. Some valid, unusual, or newer TLDs may therefore be omitted. When subdomains are not kept, the base-domain result follows a limited TWO_LABEL_SUFFIXES set; otherwise the tool returns the last two labels. This is not a complete public-suffix or registrable-domain lookup.
Results are extracted hosts, not proof that a domain exists. The tool does not verify DNS, registration, reachability, or ownership. The extraction parser processes entered text in the browser.
When no hosts are found
If nothing matches, the count displays 0 hosts found, the output stays empty, and the results table is hidden.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does this tool return full URLs or just the domain?
Just the host. Any path, query string, or fragment following a domain in a URL is discarded.
What does "Keep subdomains" do?
When enabled, a hostname like mail.example.com keeps its subdomain labels, subject to Lowercase (normalize case), Strip www prefix, and Unique only. When disabled, the tool applies its built-in suffix rules to reduce the hostname. This is an approximation based on the tool's limited suffix handling, not a complete registrable-domain lookup.
Why is this separate from the URL Extractor?
The URL Extractor returns whole links, including protocol, path, query string, and fragment. This tool is scoped to hosts only, which is what you want when auditing which domains appear across a document rather than which exact pages are linked.
