Extract Markdown Links

Paste Markdown text and extract every link's label and destination - inline links, full and collapsed reference links, and shortcut reference links, with unresolved references flagged.

Extract Markdown links from pasted or uploaded text

Paste Markdown into the input area to extract link labels and destinations. You can also select one file with Upload or drop it onto the input area. The file picker accepts .md, .markdown, and .txt files. Results update when the input changes.

Recognized link forms and result fields

The parser recognizes inline links such as [label](destination "title"), full reference links such as [label][ref], collapsed reference links such as [label][], and shortcut reference links such as [label]. Reference links use matching definitions such as [ref]: destination.

Each visible row shows Label, Destination, Title, Type, and Line. The same fields are available in both exports. An unresolved reference has no matching parsed definition, so its destination is blank.

Filter the extracted results

  • Keep Include image links checked to include image results. Clear it to remove image results from inline, reference, and shortcut-reference forms.
  • Enable Unresolved only to keep reference results marked unresolved.

Results update when either checkbox changes.

Copy or download the results

  • Select Copy to copy tab-separated Label, Destination, Title, and Type columns.
  • Select CSV to download Label, Destination, Title, Type, and Line columns.

Both exports use the currently filtered results.

Limitations and browser-side processing

This is a syntax parser, not a full Markdown renderer or validator. Reference definitions must match the implemented one-line pattern with up to three leading spaces. The tool does not extract bare URLs outside Markdown link syntax or check whether destinations are reachable.

Parsing and file reading are performed in the browser by the page scripts. The complete page also loads analytics scripts, so the local implementation does not support an absolute claim that no text or file data is ever sent elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

What Markdown link forms does this tool recognize?

It recognizes inline links, full reference links, collapsed reference links, and shortcut reference links. Reference forms resolve against matching [ref]: destination definitions.

How is this different from a generic URL extractor?

A generic URL extractor finds raw web addresses anywhere in text. This tool parses Markdown link syntax, pairs labels with destinations, and resolves reference links against definitions.

What does "unresolved" mean in the results?

A reference is unresolved when no matching parsed definition was found, so the tool cannot determine its destination.

Does it extract image links too?

Yes. Image results can come from inline, reference, and shortcut-reference forms. Clear Include image links to exclude them.

Where does parsing happen?

The page scripts parse pasted text and read selected files in your browser. The local implementation does not establish that no page data is sent elsewhere.
