Keyword List Extractor

Supply your own list of keywords or phrases and find every occurrence in a block of text - with line numbers, context, and per-keyword counts. Nothing you paste ever leaves your browser.

Example text — replace or clear it before copying or downloading results.

How to use Keyword List Extractor

Use the Keyword List Extractor to find supplied words or phrases in text. Enter each item in Keywords (one per line or phrase), then add the text you want to search.

  1. Enter one word or phrase per line in Keywords (one per line or phrase).
  2. Set Case sensitive, Whole word only, and Unique only as needed.
  3. Paste text into the search area, select a file with Upload, or drop a file onto the text area. The file picker accepts .txt, .csv, .json, and .log files.
  4. Review the matches and counts as the tool updates the results.
  5. Use Copy or Download to keep the current matched values.

Review matches and summaries

The output area lists the current matched values. The results table shows Match, Line, and Context. Context is a normalized snippet with up to 20 characters on either side of the match; whitespace is collapsed.

The summary table shows Keyword and Count. Rows are ordered by descending count. Keywords with no match can still appear with a count of 0. Copy copies the current output, while Download saves it as keyword-matches.txt.

How matching works

  • Each non-empty keyword line is trimmed and treated as literal text. It can be a word or a phrase.
  • Matching is case-insensitive by default. Enable Case sensitive to distinguish letter case.
  • Enable Whole word only to require word boundaries. Otherwise, a keyword can match inside another word.
  • Matches are non-overlapping regular-expression matches. The alternatives are ordered from longest to shortest, which affects overlapping or nested keywords.

Unique only and empty results

Unique only keeps the first occurrence of each matched value. It changes the displayed matches, match count, results table, summary counts, and the content used by Copy and Download. With case-insensitive matching, values that differ only by case are treated as the same value.

If the keyword list or input text is empty, the tool reports 0 matches, clears the output, and hides the results and summary panels.

Limits and processing scope

The local code defines no explicit keyword-count or text-size limit. Very large keyword lists or text may be constrained by available browser or regular-expression resources.

The pasted text and selected file contents are read and processed in the browser. This describes the tool’s text-processing workflow; it is not a page-wide privacy or upload guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is this different from a keyword density tool?

A keyword density tool discovers the most frequent words in a text automatically. This tool does the opposite: you supply the exact keyword list, and it finds non-overlapping matches for only those terms.

Can I search for phrases, not just single words?

Yes. Each non-empty line in Keywords (one per line or phrase) is trimmed and treated as literal text, so it can contain a single word or a multi-word phrase. Matching is case-insensitive unless Case sensitive is enabled.

Does it match partial words?

By default, keywords can match inside other words (e.g. "cat" inside "category"). Enable "Whole word only" to require word boundaries around each match.

What happens when I enable Unique only?

Unique only keeps the first occurrence of each matched value. It changes the displayed results, match count, summary counts, and the text sent to Copy or Download.

Is there a limit on how many keywords or how much text I can enter?

The local code does not define an explicit keyword-count or text-size limit. Very large inputs may be constrained by browser or regular-expression resources.
