What this tool generates
This tool generates RFC 4122 version 4 UUIDs in the browser. Results appear as one UUID per line. GUID is another term for a UUID, so the page uses both names for the same type of identifier.
Choose the count and format
Count starts at 10 and accepts a value from 1 to 10,000. Select one format option before generating:
- Lowercase uses lowercase hexadecimal letters, as shown in the example.
- Uppercase uses uppercase hexadecimal letters.
- Braces adds curly braces around each displayed UUID.
How to generate and use the results
- Enter the number of UUIDs you need in Count.
- Select Lowercase, Uppercase, or Braces.
- The UUIDs appear in the read-only output area, one per line.
- Check the result counter to confirm how many UUIDs were generated.
- Click Copy to move the output into another text workflow, or click Download to save it.
Limits and browser-side handling
The tool creates output automatically when Count or Format is usable. Keep Count between 1 and 10,000; values outside that range are not valid for this control. The page states that UUID generation happens in the browser. Do not use generated values as authentication or authorization secrets.
Frequently asked questions
What is a UUID and what does version 4 mean?
A UUID is a 128-bit identifier shown as hexadecimal digits in five hyphen-separated groups: xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx. Version 4 identifies the generation variant provided by this tool.
What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?
GUID, or Globally Unique Identifier, is another term for a UUID. The Braces option adds curly braces around the displayed value.
Is this UUID generator cryptographically secure?
The local implementation confirms browser-side version 4 UUID generation, but it does not establish security guarantees. Do not use generated values as authentication or authorization secrets.
Can I use generated UUIDs as database primary keys?
The tool only generates text values. Whether a UUID can be used as a database primary key depends on the database and application using it.
Why does the braces format exist?
Braces displays each UUID with curly braces, such as {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}. Use it when the text workflow requires that presentation.
How many UUIDs can I generate at once?
The Count field accepts from 1 to 10,000 UUIDs per generation.
