How to Use the Pay Calculator
Choose a calculation mode, enter its values, select Pay frequency, add any manual deductions, and select Calculate. The result separates gross pay, deductions, and a net pay estimate.
- Pick a mode: Salary ↔ Hourly, Overtime, Commission, Raise, or Bonus.
- Enter the mode's values: use the fields shown for rates, hours, tiers, quota, current pay, or bonus details.
- Set Pay frequency: choose Weekly (52/year), Biweekly (26/year), Semimonthly (24/year), Monthly (12/year), or Annually (1/year).
- Add deduction: enter a name, choose Flat $ per paycheck or % of gross pay, and enter an amount. Use Remove deduction to delete an added row.
- Calculate: review the gross, deductions, and net estimate.
- Start over: select Reset to clear entered values, remove deduction rows, restore defaults, and hide the result.
Calculation Modes and Formulas
Salary ↔ Hourly: enter an annual salary or hourly rate, hours worked per week, and paid weeks per year. The calculator solves the conversion using Annual salary = Hourly rate x Hours per week x Paid weeks per year.
Overtime: enter Base hourly rate, Overtime multiplier, Regular hours, and Overtime hours. It uses Overtime rate = Base hourly rate x Overtime multiplier.
Commission: enter sales, quota, tier rates, and optional accelerator and base salary or draw values. Sales are split across the configured tiers, then combined with the base using Total pay = Base salary/draw + Sum of tier commissions.
Raise: Current pay is sets whether the current figure is hourly or annual. Raise is selects a percent increase or flat dollar increase, which changes the value label and formula.
Bonus: enter Base gross pay for this pay period. Bonus is selects a percent of base gross pay or a flat dollar amount. A percent bonus uses Bonus amount = Base gross pay x (Bonus percentage / 100); a flat bonus adds the entered dollar amount.
Salary ↔ Hourly and Raise produce annual gross before pay-frequency conversion. Overtime, Commission, and Bonus treat the entered figures as one pay period.
Pay Frequency and Manual Deductions
For Salary ↔ Hourly and Raise, Pay frequency divides annual gross into gross pay per paycheck. For Overtime, Commission, and Bonus, it keeps the entered per-pay-period gross and uses the selected number of periods to annualize it.
- Choose Flat $ per paycheck for a dollar deduction.
- Choose % of gross pay for a percentage calculated from per-paycheck gross.
- Each deduction is listed separately and subtracted from gross pay to calculate
Net pay per paycheck = Gross pay per paycheck - Sum of deductions. - If no deductions are entered, the result displays “No manual deductions entered - net equals gross.”
Validation and Reset Behavior
The selected mode checks its required fields before calculating. Deduction amounts must be 0 or greater. A completely blank deduction row is skipped; a row with only one field filled or an invalid amount stops calculation with an error.
Reading, Copying, and Downloading the Result
The result shows gross pay per paycheck, total deductions per paycheck, net pay estimate per paycheck, and annualized gross and net estimates. The deduction table shows each entered deduction, its type, and its amount per paycheck. The formula section shows the selected mode formula and paycheck deductions formula. The assumptions table shows the mode inputs and selected calculated values; it does not expose every intermediate value for every mode.

Limits and Privacy
The calculator uses only values you enter. It does not apply federal, state, local, or payroll tax rules; fetch wage data, tax tables, or payroll records; or supply deduction amounts. The net figure is an arithmetic estimate, not authoritative take-home pay or personalized financial, tax, or payroll advice. Calculations happen locally in the browser, and the page states that entered data is not uploaded or stored.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Pay Calculator replace separate salary, overtime, and commission calculators?
Yes. Salary-to-hourly conversion, overtime, commission, raises, and bonuses are all modes inside this one calculator. Pick the mode that matches what you are calculating, and the result feeds into the same paycheck estimator.
Does this calculator know my tax bracket or withholding?
No. It never applies federal, state, local, or payroll tax rules, and it does not fetch any tax tables. Any withholding or deduction shown in the net estimate is one you typed in yourself, using your own figures from a pay stub, payroll provider, or tax advisor.
Where do the deduction amounts come from?
You enter them. Add a row for each withholding or deduction you want to model - such as estimated tax, retirement contribution, or insurance premium - as either a flat dollar amount per paycheck or a percent of gross pay. The calculator does not supply, look up, or suggest any deduction amounts.
Is the net pay estimate authoritative?
No. It is an arithmetic estimate built only from the gross pay calculated and the deductions you entered. It is not a payroll system, does not reflect real withholding rules, and should not be treated as your actual take-home pay. Confirm real figures with your employer, payroll provider, or a tax professional.
Does this calculator fetch payroll or wage data?
No. Every figure comes from what you type into the form. No live wage data, tax tables, or payroll records are fetched, and nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
