How the golf score calculator works
Enter par and strokes for a 9- or 18-hole round. The calculator compares your total strokes with total par and shows round statistics from the holes you entered.
Choose holes and enter scores
- Choose 9 holes or 18 holes under Holes to enter. The calculator creates nine or eighteen hole fields.
- Enter par and strokes for each hole. Par defaults to 4 and can be changed. Leave a strokes field blank to skip that hole.
- Enter at least one strokes value. Par must be a whole number from 3 through 6, and entered strokes must be a whole number from 1 through 15.
- Select Calculate. Changing Holes to enter rebuilds the fields and clears current entries.
If a value is invalid, the tool identifies the hole and displays an error. If every strokes field is blank, it displays Enter strokes for at least one hole.
Calculate and review the results
The result shows Relative to par, Total strokes, Total par, and Strokes / hole. The calculation is Total strokes - Total par; a negative result is under par, a positive result is over par, and zero is shown as E.
- The formula and a row for each entered hole show par, strokes, the signed difference, and the outcome name.
- Strokes / hole is total strokes divided by the number of holes with strokes entered.
- Best and worst hole are selected by the per-hole relative difference.
- A Front 9 / Back 9 split appears only when all 18 holes have par and strokes entered.
- Outcome counts use Eagle or better, Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, and Double bogey or worse.
Copy or download the result
Select Copy result to copy the generated plain-text result to the clipboard. If copying fails, the tool displays Could not copy - select and copy manually.
Select Download result (.txt) to download the plain-text file golf-score-to-par-result.txt.
Reset the calculator
Select Reset to hide the result, restore 18 holes, rebuild the fields, and clear entered values.
Limitations and data handling
This is a mathematical calculation of the scores you enter, not an official scorecard. You must enter par and strokes manually; the tool does not access a course database or official scoring record.
Score calculations occur locally in the browser. The page also loads analytics scripts and includes an optional subscription form that posts an email address to /assets/subscribe.php.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is golf score to par calculated?
Score relative to par = Total strokes minus Total par. Enter the par and your strokes for each hole; the calculator sums both across the holes you entered and shows the difference, positive for over par and negative for under par.
What round statistics does this calculator show?
Alongside score to par, it shows strokes per hole (total strokes divided by holes entered), your best and worst hole by relative score, a front 9 / back 9 split when all 18 holes are entered, and counts using the labels Eagle or better, Birdies, Pars, Bogeys, and Double bogey or worse.
Do I have to enter all 18 holes?
No. Leave a hole's strokes field blank to skip it - totals and statistics are calculated only across holes with a strokes value entered. Front 9 / back 9 splits only appear when all 18 holes have both par and strokes entered.
Does this tool look up my course automatically?
No. It does not access any course database or official scoring record. You enter the par and strokes for each hole yourself; the calculator only performs arithmetic on the numbers you provide.
