How the video editor works
Select one local video file, wait for its metadata to load, and edit it in the browser. The page uses an approximately 30 MB FFmpeg engine for processing. Every export re-encodes the video with the selected video encoder, and the page shows a re-encoding warning.
Adjust the video before export
Use the preview timeline to scrub through the source. Click Play or Pause while checking the edit, then combine the controls you need:
- Enable Enable crop / aspect-ratio reframe, then use Freeform, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16, or 3:4.
- Use Resize, which defaults to Keep original and also offers 2160p, 1080p, 720p, 480p, and 360p.
- Set Rotate or Flip. Choose Mute (remove audio), Reverse playback, a Loop count, or Playback speed from 0.25x to 8x.
- Adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, or Grayscale.
Choose output codec and quality
In Output codec and quality, choose Video codec: H.264 - MP4 (most compatible), VP9 - WebM, or AV1 - MP4 (smallest, slowest). Set Quality (CRF) from 0 to 51 and choose an encoder preset from ultrafast through slower.
Audio bitrate (kbps) displays bounds of 32 to 320, but manually typed values outside that range are not validated by the script. Audio is copied only when Mute (remove audio), Reverse playback, and non-normal Playback speed are not selected. Otherwise, audio is removed or re-encoded as required.
Export and download the edited video
- Drop your video file onto the drop zone, or click browse files.
- Scrub the timeline and use Play or Pause to review the source.
- Set crop, resize, Rotate, Flip, audio, speed, and color controls as needed.
- Choose the codec and quality settings, then click Export video.
- Review the result preview with its native video controls, then click Download edited video.
Important limits and failure cases
- Loop count displays
1to20and repeats the whole clip, including audio and video. The export script enforces a minimum of1but does not clamp values typed above20; use1to20. - Reverse playback buffers the entire video in memory, so long or high-resolution clips can be slow or memory-heavy.
- If the source video is unreadable or unsupported, the workspace may remain hidden after file selection. The page does not show a detailed in-page diagnosis for this load failure.
- If export fails, the page shows
Export failed - check console for details. There is no detailed in-page diagnosis beyond that message. - The implementation does not define a maximum file size, maximum duration, or supported-browser matrix.
Video editor FAQ
Does this tool cut or join videos?
No. Cutting a video down to a time range lives in Trim Video, and joining multiple clips together lives in Video Merger. This tool only handles frame and playback edits: crop, resize, rotate, flip, reframe, mute, reverse, loop, speed, and color correction.
Will editing re-encode my video?
Yes. Every export re-encodes the video with the selected video codec rather than copying the video stream. Audio is copied only when mute, reverse, and non-normal playback speed are not selected. Pick your codec and quality before exporting; the tool always shows a re-encoding warning so this is never a surprise.
