Video Preview Generator

Pick a frame from a local video and export it as a single image, poster, or thumbnail - or sample several frames into a contact sheet, storyboard, or compact thumbnail strip. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

MP4 . WebM . MOV . AVI . MKV . and more

Choose an extraction mode

Drop a video onto the tool or click browse files, then choose the tab that matches the result you need.

  • Single Frame saves one frame at the selected moment.
  • Video Poster renders one selected frame at entered dimensions.
  • Thumbnail renders one selected frame at a thumbnail size.
  • Contact Sheet, Storyboard, and Thumbnail Strip sample multiple frames into one composed image.
  • Set Interval Extractor creates a ZIP from timestamps you add.

Extract one frame at a timestamp

In Single Frame, scrub the slider or use Start, 25%, Middle, 75%, and End. The Nudge controls move by 0.1 or 1 second. You can also enter a timestamp in min:sec:ms or a frame number.

The readout is labeled Approx. frame. Frame-number navigation uses a 30 FPS estimate, so use the timestamp and preview when timing matters. Choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP, then The frame preview updates automatically as you change the position or output format; use Download image to save it.

Create a video poster or thumbnail

Choose a moment with the slider and jump or nudge controls. In Video Poster, enter Width and Height or use 1280x720, 1920x1080, or 1080x1080. With Keep source aspect ratio checked, the tool resizes the frame directly to the entered canvas; mismatched manual dimensions can stretch it. With the option unchecked, the frame is cover-cropped to fill the canvas. The poster preview updates automatically when the position, size, aspect option, format, or quality changes.

In Thumbnail, choose 1280x720, 640x360, 320x180, or Square 512, or enter your own dimensions. Thumbnail output always uses a cover crop. The thumbnail preview updates automatically when the position, size, format, or quality changes. Neither tab automatically chooses a best frame.

Build a contact sheet, storyboard, or thumbnail strip

Choose Contact Sheet, Storyboard, or Thumbnail Strip, then choose By count, By interval, or Explicit list. Count sampling spreads frames across the timeline. Interval sampling starts at 0 seconds and continues by the selected interval. The explicit list accepts HH:MM:SS timestamps; use Add to create the list.

Use Auto columns/rows for automatic layout. If you turn it off, choose Columns; the number of rows is calculated from the frame count. Set cell size, gap, padding, and Burn in timestamp labels as needed.

  • Contact Sheet uses a denser labeled layout by default.
  • Storyboard uses fewer, larger labeled cells by default.
  • Thumbnail Strip uses small, tightly spaced cells with labels off by default.

Choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP under Image format. JPEG and WebP show the Quality control. The preview updates automatically when sampling or layout settings change; use Download when it is ready.

Extract frames at set intervals

Open Set Interval Extractor. Select HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, or Seconds, enter a timestamp, and click Add. Added timestamps appear in a removable list. Invalid input shows Enter a valid timestamp for the selected format.; a timestamp beyond the video duration shows Timestamp is beyond the video duration.

After adding at least one timestamp, the ZIP is prepared automatically; use Download ZIP when it is ready. The selected single-frame image format and its quality setting are used for the files in the archive.

Export individual frames as a ZIP

Contact Sheet, Storyboard, and Thumbnail Strip each include Also export individual frames as ZIP. Enable it and the ZIP is prepared with the next automatic preview; use Download when it is ready. The ZIP contains the composed sheet and the sampled frames.

Processing, privacy, and practical limitations

The selected video is processed locally in the browser through a browser object URL; the implementation does not send it to an upload request. After selection, the tool displays Preparing video for smooth scrubbing... while it waits for canplaythrough or a six-second timeout. This is not a guarantee that the whole video has been preloaded.

No universal supported-format list, file-size limit, duration limit, codec list, browser matrix, or memory threshold is defined in the local implementation. Video decoding and available browser or device resources can affect whether a file processes successfully. This tool renders still images; it does not trim, cut, re-encode, or export every video frame. Use Trim Video to cut a clip.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save a single frame from a video?

Open the Single Frame tab, drop your video, scrub the slider or use the jump, nudge, timestamp, or frame controls, choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP, then The frame preview updates automatically as you change the position or output format; use Download image to save it.

Does this tool automatically pick the best thumbnail for me?

No. The Thumbnail and Video Poster tabs let you choose the frame and dimensions. The tool renders your selection; it does not automatically select a frame.

What's the difference between a contact sheet, a storyboard, and a thumbnail strip?

All three sample multiple frames into one grid image. Contact Sheet uses a denser labeled layout, Storyboard uses fewer and larger labeled cells, and Thumbnail Strip uses smaller, tightly packed cells with labels off by default.

Can I export individual sampled frames instead of one composed sheet?

Yes. Contact Sheet, Storyboard, and Thumbnail Strip include Also export individual frames as ZIP. The Set Interval Extractor can also export its added timestamps as a ZIP.

Which image format should I pick?

Choose PNG for lossless output. JPEG and WebP provide the Quality control for their encoded output. The tool does not define a universal compatibility or quality comparison between formats.

Does this tool trim or edit the video itself?

No. It reads frames to render still images; it does not cut, trim, re-encode, or export an image sequence of every frame. Use the Trim Video tool if you need to cut the video down.
