Remove numbers from text with the available controls
Enter text, choose what to match, and remove or replace the matches. The tool does not calculate values or return a separate list of extracted numbers.
Choose how numbers are detected and replaced
Choose how the tool should find numbers, then choose whether to remove or replace each match.
- Remove digit characters: removes every matching
0-9character. For example,v1.2-betabecomesv.-beta. - Remove whole number tokens: matches number segments as units. It does not understand semantic fields, so numbers inside dates, versions, identifiers, and other alphanumeric strings may also match. Adjacent numeric parts can be matched separately.
When using whole-number-token mode, choose a number format:
- US (1,234.56): comma thousands separators and a period decimal mark.
- EU (1.234,56): period thousands separators and a comma decimal mark.
- Plain (no separators): no thousands grouping; an unbroken digit run may use either a period or comma as its decimal mark.
- Include leading sign (+/-): includes a leading
+or-in a token match. - Include trailing percent (%): includes a trailing
%in a token match.
Then select Remove to delete matches, or select Replace with placeholder to substitute the text in the placeholder field. For example, with the sign and percent options enabled, -1,234.50% can be handled as one token. In digit-character mode, only the digits match, so punctuation remains.
Clean up whitespace and review the result
- Keep Clean up leftover whitespace enabled to collapse runs of spaces and tabs to one space and remove trailing spaces or tabs on each line.
- Enable Show before-and-after preview to display Before and After panels.
Whitespace cleanup preserves line breaks and does not remove leading spaces. The output and statistics update automatically when the input or a processing control changes. The output area is read-only, so there is no separate Run or Submit control.
Process text from a file or copy the result
- Paste text into the input area, select Upload, or drop a supported
.txt,.csv,.log, or.mdfile onto the input area; dropped files are read as text. - Choose the removal mode and, in token mode, the number policy.
- Set the sign, percent, action, placeholder, whitespace, and preview controls as needed.
- Review the output, then select Copy or Download.
Processing starts automatically after imported text is read. If the output is empty, Copy and Download remain unavailable. File-reading failures are reported below the input so you can choose another file or paste the text instead.
Limitations and privacy scope
Token mode matches the regular-expression patterns defined by the selected policy. It does not define semantic boundaries, so numeric parts of identifiers, dates, versions, or adjacent numeric segments may be removed. Depending on the controls, signs, percent characters, spaces, and tabs may change too. The tool does not document a maximum input size, encoding, or browser compatibility range here.
The transformation uses browser-side JavaScript, FileReader, and Blob. The page also loads external analytics, so these implementation details do not establish an absolute privacy or security guarantee. Removing numbers does not guarantee that the remaining text is anonymous or safe to share.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What's the difference between digit-character mode and whole-number-token mode?
Digit-character mode deletes every individual 0-9 character it finds, so v1.2-beta becomes v.-beta. Whole-number-token mode instead matches an entire number as one unit and removes or replaces it all at once; when sign and percent controls are enabled, -1,234.50% can be removed in one piece rather than leaving those matched characters behind.
Does this tool give me a list of the numbers it found?
No. This tool only returns your text with numeric content removed or replaced. If you need a list of the numbers themselves, use the Number Extractor tool instead.
Does it calculate or extract numbers?
No. It does not extract numbers into a separate list or calculate values. It only matches numeric tokens or digit characters to remove or replace them.
What are the US, EU, and Plain number format policies?
US treats commas as thousands separators and a period as the decimal mark (1,234.56). EU treats periods as thousands separators and a comma as the decimal mark (1.234,56). Plain recognizes no thousands grouping and accepts either a period or comma as a decimal mark on an unbroken run of digits.
