How the currency extractor works
Paste text or load a file to find non-negative, digit-based amounts paired with a configured currency symbol or uppercase currency code. Each match includes the currency, amount, source line, and surrounding context. The tool lists amounts; it does not convert currencies.
Extract amounts from text or a file
- Paste text into the input area. Results update as the input changes.
- Use Upload to open a file picker filtered to
.txt,.csv,.json, and.log. You can also drop a text file; the same supported-extension filter applies. - Review the result count and table, then enable Unique only or Normalize to CODE + amount if needed.
- Use Copy or Download for the current output. Download saves
currency-amounts.txt.
Review and refine the results
The initialized empty state shows 0 amounts found. After matching, the count shows the number of results. The table lists Match, Currency, Amount, Line, and Context.
- Unique only deduplicates by source line number plus the raw matched text. It does not merge equivalent forms such as
$10andUSD 10. - Normalize to CODE + amount rewrites each result as a currency code followed by the amount, such as
USD 10.00. - The Amount column uses the browser's locale and two decimal places. Normalized output always uses a period and two decimal places. With normalization off, Match and the output preserve the matched text.
Supported identifiers and matching limits
- Supported symbols are
$,€,£,¥,₹,₩,₽,₺,₫,₴,₦,₱,฿,₡,₪,₲,₸,₭,₮,₵,₼,zł,kr, andR$. Supported codes areUSD,EUR,GBP,JPY,CNY,AUD,CAD,CHF,HKD,NZD,SEK,KRW,SGD,NOK,MXN,INR,RUB,ZAR,TRY,BRL,DKK,PLN,THB,IDR,HUF,CZK,ILS,CLP,PHP,AED,SAR,MYR,RON,VND,UAH,NGN,EGP,PKR,BDT,KZT,QAR,COP,PEN,ARS, andTWD. - Codes must use their configured uppercase forms. For example,
USD 10matches, butusd 10does not. A code may come before or after the amount, with or without a space. - The matcher uses digit-based, non-negative amounts and accepts zero. Negative signs and accounting parentheses are not interpreted as signs, although an embedded amount such as
$10may still be extracted from-$10or($10). - The parser removes every comma before reading the number. Commas are not checked as valid thousands separators, so locale-specific decimal commas may be read incorrectly.
- Copy and Download do nothing when the output is empty.
Privacy and browser processing
Extraction runs in the browser. Uploaded and dropped files are read as text with FileReader. This describes this tool's processing path and does not establish the behavior of other scripts loaded by the page.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Which currency symbols and codes does this tool recognize?
The tool recognizes these symbols: $, €, £, ¥, ₹, ₩, ₽, ₺, ₫, ₴, ₦, ₱, ฿, ₡, ₪, ₲, ₸, ₭, ₮, ₵, ₼, zł, kr, and R$, plus these uppercase codes: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CNY, AUD, CAD, CHF, HKD, NZD, SEK, KRW, SGD, NOK, MXN, INR, RUB, ZAR, TRY, BRL, DKK, PLN, THB, IDR, HUF, CZK, ILS, CLP, PHP, AED, SAR, MYR, RON, VND, UAH, NGN, EGP, PKR, BDT, KZT, QAR, COP, PEN, ARS, and TWD. Amounts can appear before or after a code, with or without a space. Lowercase forms such as usd 10 are not matched.
Does this tool convert between currencies?
No. It only finds and lists monetary amounts as written in the source text - it does not look up exchange rates or perform any conversion.
How are thousands separators and decimals handled?
Every comma is stripped before parsing, and a period decimal is preserved. This handles text such as 1,250.50, but decimal-comma notation is not supported safely. The Amount column uses the browser's locale; normalized output uses a period and two decimal places.
Which numbers does the matcher extract?
The matcher extracts digit-based, non-negative amounts when they are paired with one of the configured currency symbols or uppercase codes. It does not target unmarked numbers.
