What the Emoji Extractor returns
Use Emoji Extractor to scan text that already contains emoji. It reports each match in occurrence order, with its count, Unicode code points, and shortcode. It does not add, replace, or remove emoji. By default, the output contains one extracted emoji per line.
How to extract emoji
- Paste text into the input area. Results update when the input changes.
- Use Upload to choose a
.txt,.csv,.json, or.logfile, or drop a file onto the input area. The file is read as text and replaces the textarea contents. - Check the reported count. It shows the number of emoji found, or the unique and total counts when Unique only is enabled.
Review results and use Unique only
The results table contains Emoji, Order, Count, Code Points, and Shortcode. Select Unique only to collapse repeated emoji into one row. The first occurrence order is retained for each unique result, and the output changes to emoji-plus-count lines separated by a tab.
Copy or export the results
- Use Copy to write the output textarea value to the clipboard.
- Use Download to create
emoji-extract.txt. - Use Download CSV to create
emoji-extract.csvwith the headersOrder,Emoji,Count,CodePoints, andShortcode.
Clipboard copying has no local error message if the clipboard write fails.
Composite emoji and shortcode limitations
When Intl.Segmenter with grapheme granularity is available, flags, skin-tone variants, and zero-width-joiner (ZWJ) sequences stay together as single results. The fallback uses code-point-level iteration and may split composite emoji. Common emoji use mapped colon-wrapped shortcodes. Unmapped emoji use a code-point-based shortcode fallback. Code points are displayed as uppercase U+ values.
Input and processing boundaries
The browser-side parser reads and reports emoji already present in the text. If no emoji is detected, the results panel stays hidden, there is no exportable result, and Copy, Download, and Download CSV do nothing. Extraction does not remove emoji. To remove them, use the Remove emojis control in Text Cleaner. To convert keywords into emoji, use Emoji Mapper.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does this tool split flag emoji or skin-tone variants into separate characters?
When Intl.Segmenter with grapheme granularity is available, the tool keeps a flag, skin-tone variant, or ZWJ sequence together as one result. The code-point fallback may split composite emoji.
What are shortcode names?
Shortcode names are the colon-wrapped names used by Slack, GitHub, and Discord to represent emoji in plain text, such as :grinning: or . Common emoji get a mapped shortcode; others receive a code-point-based value.
Does this tool remove emoji from my text?
No. It reads and reports emoji already present. Uploading a file replaces the input field with that file's contents; extraction itself does not remove emoji. Use the Remove emojis control in Text Cleaner to strip them.
How is this different from Emoji Mapper?
Emoji Mapper converts keywords in your text into emoji. Emoji Extractor reads emoji that are already present and reports them.
