What the tool extracts
Use the Social Media Handle & Hashtag Extractor to find @mentions and #hashtags in raw text. Supply the text by pasting it or loading a local text file. The tool returns the matching items in the output area and can show how often each item occurs.
Paste, upload, or drop a text file
Paste content into the input textarea. You can also select the upload button, labeled Upload, to open a local file picker, or drag a supported text file anywhere on this page. The file is read as text and placed in the input area. The page does not document a file-type policy or file-size limit.
Choose the extraction mode and filters
Choose the mode and filters, then review the output. Both is selected initially. Unique only is checked initially, while Case sensitive is unchecked.
- Select @Mentions only to return mentions, or #Hashtags only to return hashtags.
- Clear Unique only when repeated items should remain in the output.
- Enable Case sensitive when capitalization should distinguish values such as
#Marketingand#marketing.
Unique only changes which items remain in the output. The page does not document whether Frequency Count uses all source occurrences or only the values left after deduplication, so check the count panel when repeated input matters.
Read the output and Frequency Count
The output textarea is read-only. With Both selected, results are grouped under -- @Mentions -- and -- #Hashtags --. The result area also shows a result count.
Frequency Count displays occurrence counts in a horizontal bar chart. With no input, it shows “Paste social media text above to see frequency counts.” These counts show how often extracted items occur; they do not establish performance, compliance, advocacy, or causation.
Copy or download the extracted text
- Enter or load the text and choose the required mode and filters.
- Review the read-only output and the Frequency Count tables.
- Select Copy to copy the output, or select Download to save it as a file.
Matching and privacy limitations
The page does not document the extractor's complete token-boundary or Unicode matching rules. Check the output when punctuation, unusual characters, or repeated values are important. The page also does not document a maximum input size or file-size limit.
The extraction and local-file reading logic runs in browser-side JavaScript. The page also loads analytics scripts, so this implementation detail is not an absolute guarantee that no page data is sent or that the tool provides confidentiality. No maximum input size or file-size limit is documented.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What social media platforms does this tool work with?
The interface processes raw text that you paste or load from a local file. It does not show a platform integration or API connection, so copy the text you want to inspect into the tool.
How does the Frequency Count work?
It summarizes how often each extracted mention or hashtag occurs. The results appear in tables with visual bars, so the panel reports occurrence counts rather than performance or engagement.
Is my social media data safe?
The extraction logic and local-file reading run in your browser. The page also loads analytics scripts, so the inspected implementation does not support an absolute claim that no page data is sent or that confidentiality is guaranteed.
What is the difference between case-sensitive and case-insensitive mode?
With Case sensitive unchecked, capitalization differences such as #Marketing and #marketing are treated alike. Enable Case sensitive to distinguish them.
Can I extract only hashtags, or only mentions?
Yes. Select @Mentions only, #Hashtags only, or Both in the mode controls.
