How to generate acronym candidates
Use the Acronym Generator to produce candidates from the text in Phrase / Name. Candidates update automatically as you type and whenever you change an option.
Choose the generation options
Set the controls before generating:
- Skip connector words affects most strategies by filtering recognized words such as
the,of, andand. The first candidate always uses every word. For inputs of two words or fewer, connector-word filtering is bypassed. - Allow numeric substitutions applies the script's fixed mappings:
forto4,to,too, ortwoto2,ateto8,oneorwonto1,youtou, andaretor. - Case controls displayed capitalization: UPPERCASE, Title Case, or lowercase.
- Max candidates is normalized to the range
1-20. Invalid or empty values default to10, and out-of-range values are clamped.
Generate and manage results
- Enter text in Phrase / Name.
- Choose the available options.
- Review the candidates that update automatically.
- Review each candidate's strategy label and use its individual copy control when needed.
- Use Copy All to copy the displayed candidate text, or Download All to download it as
acronym-candidates.txt.
Understand the candidate strategies
Each result shows one of these exact strategy labels:
- First letter of every word
- First letter of key words (short connector words skipped)
- First word’s prefix + initials of the rest
- Whole short words kept, longer words reduced to their initial
- Initials read in reverse word order
- First two letters of each word
- Initials, with the last word’s first two letters
- Initials with word count appended
The word-count strategy appends the count of the words used after connector-word filtering, when filtering applies. Duplicate candidates are removed by uppercase form.
Understand Real word match
Real word match means that the uppercase candidate exists in the script's curated dictionary set. Changing Case changes the display only; dictionary matching still uses the uppercase form. The badge does not assess pronunciation, memorability, uniqueness, or naming quality.
Input and output limitations
- Input is split on whitespace, hyphens, underscores, slashes, and commas.
- Non-alphanumeric characters are stripped from words before candidates are built.
- The visible Max candidates control is normalized to
1–20; output is limited to the first 20 generated candidates. - Results appear only when candidates are produced. An empty or unusable input shows an error instead.
Privacy and page data flow
Candidate generation itself runs in the page's local JavaScript. The implementation does not establish that no page data is sent externally: the page loads Ahrefs and Google Analytics scripts and includes a subscription form that posts to /assets/subscribe.php.
Frequently asked questions
How do I generate acronym candidates?
Enter text in Phrase / Name and choose the available options. Candidates update automatically whenever the input or an option changes.
What does Skip connector words do?
It removes recognized connector words from most candidate strategies. The first candidate always uses every word, and filtering is bypassed for inputs of two words or fewer.
What does Real word match mean?
The uppercase candidate exists in the script's curated dictionary set. The badge does not evaluate pronunciation, memorability, uniqueness, or naming quality.
How many candidates can I generate?
Max candidates is normalized to a value from 1 to 20. Invalid or empty values default to 10, out-of-range values are clamped, and the generator displays no more than the first 20 candidates it produces.
Can I copy or download all displayed candidates?
Each candidate has its own copy control. When clipboard access is available, Copy All copies the displayed candidate text; Download All downloads it as acronym-candidates.txt.
Is candidate generation local, and does that mean no page data is sent externally?
Candidate generation runs in the page's local JavaScript. That does not establish that no page data is sent externally: the page loads Ahrefs and Google Analytics scripts and includes a subscription form that posts to /assets/subscribe.php.
