How to use the Invisible Text Generator
Use this tool to build output from selectable zero-width and other invisible Unicode characters. Zero Width Space is selected when the page loads and after Reset. The result updates automatically as you change the characters, mode, input, or output settings.
- Select one or more characters in the character grid.
- Choose Padding (repeat characters only) or Insertion (invisible text between your text).
- Set the available fields for the selected mode; the result updates automatically.
- Review the result, then use Copy or Download.
Configure Padding or Insertion
Padding (repeat characters only) creates a standalone sequence by repeating the selected character combination. Repeat count accepts values from 1 to 500.
Insertion (invisible text between your text) adds the selected combination to non-final positions in your input. Enter up to 500 characters in Visible text, choose Insert every N chars from 1 to 50, and set Repeat count from 1 to 500. The invisible sequence is inserted between qualifying visible characters, not after the final character.
Review, inspect, and export the result
The output box updates automatically and shows the generated text with a count based on JavaScript characters. The tool also displays a Compatibility preview with four in-page simulations: Plain text field, Whitespace-trimmed context, Monospace / code view, and Fallback-glyph context. This preview does not test the actual app where you plan to paste the result.
Enable Show code-point reveal after generating to list each output character, such as U+200B. Characters in the tool's list receive their listed names. Visible input characters in Insertion mode can appear with the fallback name Unknown. Download creates the plain-text file invisible-text.txt.
Limits and troubleshooting
- Select at least one invisible character before generating.
- Insertion mode requires non-empty Visible text.
- The interface limits Repeat count to
1–500, Visible text to 500 characters, and Insert every N chars to1–50. - Rendering can vary by app and font. Invisible characters may be stripped, or they may appear as boxes or question marks.
- Use the preview as an illustration, then test the generated text in the actual destination.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is invisible text really invisible?
It renders as blank or near-blank in most fonts and apps, but rendering, search, moderation, and paste handling vary. Some platforms strip zero-width characters, some display a placeholder glyph (like a dotted box), and some flag or block them entirely. Always test in the specific app you plan to use it in.
What is the difference between zero-width and other invisible characters?
Zero-width characters (like U+200B Zero Width Space) occupy no visible horizontal space. Other invisible characters (like U+00A0 No-Break Space or the Braille Pattern Blank U+2800) do occupy space but render with no visible mark. Both are included here since either can produce blank-looking output depending on context.
Can invisible characters be misused?
Yes. Invisible characters can be used to disguise text, bypass filters, fake blank usernames or messages, or hide content inside otherwise normal-looking text. Use them for legitimate purposes only, such as spacers, formatting, or testing - never to deceive, evade moderation, or misrepresent content.
Why does my invisible text show up as boxes or question marks?
Some applications and fonts render unassigned or invisible code points as a fallback glyph (tofu boxes) instead of hiding them. This is a rendering choice made by the receiving app, not something this tool controls - check the compatibility preview and test in your target platform before relying on it.
Does this tool detect or remove invisible characters from my text?
No. This tool only generates new invisible text. To inspect, detect, or strip invisible characters from existing text, use a dedicated tool such as an Invisible Character Detector or Unicode Inspector.
