What this GIF compressor changes
Use this tool to change an animated GIF's Frame rate, dimensions, Colors, Dithering, and Loop settings. Processing runs in your browser with a local FFmpeg/WASM encoder.
Choose compression settings
Set the controls before you compress. The available choices are:
- Frame rate:
Keep originalor a preset from24 fpsdown to5 fps. - Resize:
100%,75%,50%,33%,25%, orCustom width. - Custom width: select it to show Width (px). Enter at least
2px; the height is calculated from the original dimensions. - Colors: choose from
256,128,64,32, or16. - Dithering:
Bayer - smooth gradients,Floyd-Steinberg - fine detail, orNone - flattest, smallest. - Loop:
Loop forever,Play once, orCustom play count. - Custom play count: select it to show Play count, limited to
1-100.
Compare the result in the preview before choosing more aggressive settings. The tool does not define a single quality setting that suits every animation.
How to compress GIF files
- Drop GIF files on the drop zone, or click browse files.
- Choose the Frame rate, Resize, Colors, Dithering, and Loop settings; compression reruns automatically.
- Review the estimated output size and the completed result.
- Wait while the files are processed sequentially.
- For a completed row, click Preview compressed GIF to compare the Before and After images.
- Click Download compressed GIF for one result. Use Remove GIF to remove a file from the list.
Download all as ZIP becomes available after at least two compressed results exist.
Check the estimate and preview
The interface shows Estimated output size: about ... (actual size varies with the animation). Treat this as an approximate estimate. An output can be the same size as the original or larger; in that case, the displayed savings is clamped to 0%.
After compression, the Before and After previews show the original and processed GIFs side by side. Use them to check the visual result and playback before downloading.
Input limits and processing notes
- The drop zone accepts GIF files. Files that fail the GIF header check remain in the queue with an error so you can remove them and continue with valid files.
- A file can show an individual processing error. The local page does not establish a maximum file size, maximum file count, guaranteed processing time, browser compatibility, or minimum device requirement.
- The first compression may show Loading GIF encoder (~30 MB, one-time download)... before processing starts.
Frequently asked questions
What files can I add?
Add GIF files. A file that fails the GIF header check stays in the queue with an error; remove it to continue with valid files.
Can I compress multiple GIFs?
Yes. Add multiple GIFs; the tool processes them sequentially. Download each result with Download compressed GIF, or use Download all as ZIP after at least two results finish successfully.
How accurate is the estimated output size?
It is approximate. The actual size varies with the animation, and the output may not be smaller than the original. The displayed savings is shown as 0% when there is no reduction.
What does Play count do?
It sets the output GIF's playback count when Custom play count is selected. The field accepts values from 1 to 100; the page does not document more specific playback semantics.
Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?
Yes. Percentage presets and Custom width calculate the height from the original dimensions.
