Convert Images to WebP

Use this tool to convert one or more image files to WebP in the browser. Select files with browse files or drop them into the tool, choose a WebP Quality value, and review the automatically updated conversion.

How to Convert Images to WebP

  1. Drop one or more files on Drop images here, or select browse files.
  2. Review the queued files. Use the remove control beside a file if you do not want to convert it.
  3. Set WebP Quality to a value from 1 to 100. The default is 85.
  4. Click an individual Download button, or use Download all as ZIP after every queued file has converted.

Review the Conversion Results

After conversion, the file list shows Original, WebP size, and Savings. Compare the measured output size and the image appearance before downloading.

Each output keeps the source basename and uses the .webp extension.

Accepted Files and Conversion Limits

The picker accepts image MIME types, plus .avif and .svg. The interface lists PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, AVIF, SVG, and WEBP as examples.

Successful conversion depends on the browser being able to decode the selected image and encode WebP. If conversion fails, the tool shows an alert such as The image could not be read or WebP encoding is not supported. A maximum file count, file size, image dimension, or processing limit is not defined in the implementation.

Animated Images and Privacy

Animated images follow the image-to-Canvas conversion path, so the result represents the first frame rather than a frame-by-frame animated WebP.

The conversion code creates a local object URL, decodes the selected image, and renders it to a Canvas blob. It does not use an upload request for the selected image.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the WebP Quality value control?

The WebP Quality control accepts values from 1 to 100. The selected value is passed to Canvas WebP encoding, so the tool does not promise a fixed visual result for a particular range. Inspect the converted image and the displayed size.

Why is my WebP file larger than the original?

The converted output can be larger than the source. Compare the displayed sizes and, if needed, try another WebP Quality value.

Can I convert multiple images at once?

Yes. Select or drop multiple files; conversion starts automatically. Each successful result gets its own Download button.

Why is "Download all as ZIP" unavailable?

The ZIP control appears only after every queued file has converted. If one conversion fails, the tool shows an alert instead of producing a partial per-file result.

Does this convert animated GIFs to animated WebP?

No. Animated images are converted through the first-frame path, so the output does not preserve the animation.
