How to wrap text with this tool
Paste text into the input area, or use Upload or Drop file. The default settings are Column width 80, Soft wrap (word boundary), and Preserve paragraph breaks. The result appears in a read-only output area; use Copy or Download to retrieve it.
Choose the wrapping mode and width
Use the Column width slider to choose a value from 40 to 200.
- Soft wrap (word boundary) keeps words intact where possible. If one unbroken word is longer than the selected width, it remains unbroken, so that line can exceed the target.
- Hard wrap (exact character limit) splits text at the selected character limit, including within a word when needed.
- Preserve paragraph breaks is available when you want the input's paragraph separation retained during wrapping.
How to use the Text Wrapper
- Paste text into the input area, or select Upload or Drop file.
- Adjust Column width.
- Choose Soft wrap (word boundary) or Hard wrap (exact character limit).
- Turn Preserve paragraph breaks on or off.
- Read the result in the read-only output area, then select Copy or Download.
Check the output with Show visual ruler
Select Show visual ruler to display a ruler above the output. Use it as a visual guide against the selected Column width. The local implementation does not confirm a specific marker interval.
Limitations and confirmed file behavior
The upload workflow reads selected files as text in the browser with FileReader. The page does not document a maximum file size, accepted file extensions, encoding behavior, unreadable-file handling, or the filename used by Download. It also does not fully document how tabs, whitespace, existing line breaks, or very long unbroken strings are handled in every mode.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I wrap text to 80 columns?
Paste your text, set Column width to 80, and choose Soft wrap (word boundary) to keep words intact where possible.
What is the difference between hard wrap and soft wrap?
Hard wrap (exact character limit) splits lines at the selected character limit. Soft wrap (word boundary) breaks at word boundaries where possible and may leave an overlong word unbroken.
