Shuffle Words: reorder the words already in your text
Shuffle Words rearranges the existing non-whitespace word tokens in your text. It does not add, delete, or change spelling. Punctuation attached to a token moves with it, while spaces, tabs, and line breaks stay in their original positions.
How to shuffle words
- Paste text into the input area. You can also use Upload for a
.txtfile or drop a file anywhere on the page. Drag-and-drop reads the first dropped file. - Choose Whole document (shuffle all words together), Per line (shuffle within each line only), or Per sentence (shuffle within each sentence only).
- Optionally enter a value in Seed (optional, for reproducible shuffles):.
- Set Repeat count from
1to20. - Optionally enable Prevent original order (re-roll if unchanged).
- The output updates automatically when the text or any relevant control changes.
- Use Copy or Download to take the result from the page.
Choose a shuffle scope
- Whole document (shuffle all words together) uses one group, so words can move across line breaks. The whitespace pattern remains fixed.
- Per line (shuffle within each line only) keeps each line's words within that line.
- Per sentence (shuffle within each sentence only) keeps words within detected sentence groups. Detection uses tokens ending in
.,!, or?, with supported closing quote or bracket characters.
A word token is any run of non-whitespace characters. Therefore, punctuation with no space before it, such as house, or well-known), moves with that token. The tool does not correct spacing, capitalization, punctuation, or grammar after shuffling.
Seed, Repeat count, and Prevent original order
- Seed (optional, for reproducible shuffles): A non-empty seed produces the same result when the other settings and input are the same.
- Repeat count: Values from
1to20produce that many results. When the value is greater than1, the output labels the variants asShuffle #1,Shuffle #2, and so on. - Prevent original order (re-roll if unchanged): The tool retries an unchanged group up to 50 times. It cannot guarantee a different result for groups with fewer than two tokens, identical token values, or a result that remains unchanged after those attempts.
The stats bar reports the word count, group count, selected scope, and active seed when a seed is set.
Copy or download the result
Copy writes the output to the clipboard when the browser operation succeeds. Download creates a plain-text file named shuffled-words.txt when the browser operation succeeds.
Limits and browser processing
The implementation processes text locally in your browser and defines no explicit application-level character limit. Very large input can still be affected by browser memory or performance. If a browser blocks clipboard, file-reading, or download access, the shared controls report the unavailable operation and the input remains available for retry.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Does Shuffle Words change spelling or add new words?
No. The tool only reorders the exact word tokens already present in your text. It does not invent, delete, or edit a word's spelling.
What happens to punctuation and whitespace when words are shuffled?
Punctuation attached to a word moves with that word. Spaces, tabs, and line breaks stay fixed, so only the words move between those existing whitespace slots.
How is this different from Shuffle Lines or a random text generator?
Shuffle Words reorders words inside your text. It does not reorder whole lines or generate new text. Use Shuffle Lines to reorder lines, or a random text generator for fabricated content.
What does the seed and prevent-original-order option do?
A seed makes the shuffle reproducible when the input and other settings are the same. Prevent original order (re-roll if unchanged) retries a group's shuffle up to 50 times, but a different order is only possible for applicable groups and is not guaranteed after all attempts.
