What the PDF-to-Word tool does
Use the PDF to Word Converter to turn PDF files into editable .docx files. Text extraction, OCR, and document generation run in your browser using WebAssembly, so your PDFs are not uploaded. The tool extracts paragraph and page layout and preserves simple tables.
Choose pages and OCR settings
After you select files, set the controls for the conversion:
- Use Page range to enter values such as
1-3, 5, 8-10. Leave it blank to use all pages. - Under Scanned pages, choose Auto-detect + OCR, Always run OCR, or Never run OCR.
- Under OCR language, choose English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, or Italian.
Convert and download the files
- Drop PDF files into Drop PDF files here, or select browse files.
- Set Page range, Scanned pages, and OCR language if needed.
- Review the file list. It shows File, Pages, and OCR columns.
- Conversion starts automatically after the files and settings are ready.
- Download converted files individually, or select Download all as ZIP.
Check the extracted content
When the preview is available, switch between Before (original page) and After (extracted content). The first tab shows the source page; the second shows the content extracted for conversion. Use it to inspect the extracted result, not as a guarantee that the final .docx will match the PDF exactly.
Scanned PDFs and extracted formatting
For scanned or image-based pages, choose an OCR setting and the language that matches the document. Auto-detect + OCR is the automatic option; Always run OCR applies OCR to every page, while Never run OCR keeps OCR off.
The generated document is editable, with paragraph and layout extraction and simple-table preservation. Complex PDF designs may be simplified, and the page does not document an OCR accuracy or exact-layout guarantee.
Confirmed limitations and privacy
The page confirms browser-local processing: parsing, OCR, and the .docx file are generated using WebAssembly, and your PDFs are never uploaded. It does not document a maximum file count, page count, file size, or usage limit. Password-protected PDF handling and browser compatibility are also not documented here.
Frequently asked questions
Does converting PDF to Word upload my file anywhere?
No. Text extraction, OCR, and the .docx file are built entirely in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device.
Can this convert scanned PDFs that have no text layer?
Yes. When a page has little or no selectable text, the tool automatically runs on-device OCR to recognize the text from the page image before adding it to the document.
Will tables and formatting be preserved?
The tool detects column-aligned text and rebuilds it as real Word tables, while keeping paragraph breaks based on the original layout. Complex designed layouts may be simplified into a readable, editable document rather than reproduced pixel for pixel.
