Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own image to make a meme?
No. Pick one of the built-in blank templates in the classic meme, square, or landscape format to start captioning immediately, or upload your own photo or screenshot instead.
Can I move the text anywhere on the image?
Yes. Beyond the classic top and bottom captions, click Add text box to create additional captions you can drag anywhere on the image with your mouse or finger, and resize using Font size.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Your image and text are rendered together using the Canvas API directly in your browser, and the export happens locally, so nothing is ever sent to a server.
What file format does the export use?
Choose PNG for the sharpest text and support for transparent source images, or JPG for a smaller download size.
