Choose a mode and enter text
Select By Character to place characters on separate lines, or select By Word to place each whitespace-separated word on its own line. Type or paste text into the input area. The output updates when you change the input or a setting.
How to Use the Converter
- Select By Character or By Word.
- Type or paste text into the left input area.
- To read a file as text, use Upload or drop a supported text file anywhere on the page.
- Read the result in the read-only output area. It refreshes as the input and settings change.
- Use Copy to copy the result or Download to save a text output file.
Control the Output
- Skip spaces: In By Character mode, removes literal space characters when enabled. It does not describe tabs or other whitespace.
- Reverse order: Reverses the converted characters or words. With Keep separate lines as blocks enabled, it reverses each input line separately. With that option disabled, it reverses the entire flattened input.
- Keep separate lines as blocks: When enabled, converts each input line separately and joins the resulting blocks with a blank line. When disabled, line breaks are removed in By Character mode and replaced with spaces in By Word mode.
Processing and Input Limits
The conversion runs in browser JavaScript, and empty input produces empty output. Upload and Drop file read the selected file as text. The page does not define accepted file formats, a maximum file size, an encoding policy, or visible file-read error behavior.
In By Character mode, most characters are handled as expected, but some Unicode characters represented by surrogate pairs, including certain emoji, may be split into separate units.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I make text vertical online?
Paste your text into the tool, choose whether to stack by character or by word, and the vertical version appears in the output box. Use Copy or Download when you are done.
Can I stack text by word instead of by letter?
Yes. Select By Word and each whitespace-separated word is placed on its own line instead of each character.
