Data Comparison Tools

Compare data by choosing the tool that matches your input: CSV or TSV tables, JSON documents, Parquet files, spreadsheets, SQL schema definitions, or XML documents.

CSV Diff

Compare two CSV, TSV, or delimited tables: detect headers and delimiters, match rows by key columns or position, and report added, removed, and changed rows and cells with a summary, detailed before/after views, and export.

A: id,name,city
1,Alice,London
B: id,name,city
1,Alice,Berlin
row id=1 changed
city: London → Berlin

JSON Diff

Compare two JSON documents structurally: report added, removed, and changed values by JSON path, with key-order independence, position or key-based array matching, a readable tree or JSON Patch-style result, and export.

A: {"name":"Alice"}
B: {"name":"Alicia"}
changed: $.name
Alice → Alicia

Parquet Diff

Compare two local Parquet files without converting to CSV: inspect field names, physical/logical types, repetition or nullability details, and row-group counts, then diff records by key columns, row order, or row-multiset hash.

Spreadsheet Diff

Compare two spreadsheet workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xls, .xlsb, .ods) sheet by sheet: match sheets by name, compare dimensions, headers, formulas, and displayed values, and optionally cell formatting, with key-column or coordinate matching, ignore rules, visual highlighting, and export.

SQL Schema Diff

Compare two SQL DDL schema definitions in a chosen dialect and review a change log of added, removed, and changed tables, columns, types, defaults, keys, constraints, indexes, and views.

CREATE TABLE users (
id INT
);
column added
created_at TIMESTAMP
schema change log

XML Diff

Compare two XML documents semantically as parsed trees: report added, removed, and changed elements, attributes, text, CDATA, comments, and namespaces by XPath-like location, ignoring formatting whitespace and attribute order while preserving sibling order.

A:
Alice

B:
Alicia

changed: /root/item
Alice → Alicia

Choose a comparison tool by input type

This category separates data comparisons by the structure of the inputs. Choose CSV Diff for CSV, TSV, or other delimited tables; JSON Diff for JSON documents; and Parquet Diff for Parquet files.

For workbook files, use Spreadsheet Diff. For SQL schema definitions, use SQL Schema Diff. For XML documents, use XML Diff.

A practical way to start a comparison

 1. Identify the input structure of both data sources you want to compare.
 2. Open the child tool that matches that structure. For example, use CSV Diff to compare CSV or TSV data, JSON Diff to compare JSON data, or Spreadsheet Diff to compare spreadsheet files.
 3. Follow the selected tool's interface and instructions to provide the inputs and review the comparison.

Match the data structure before comparing

The available tools cover different representations: delimited text, structured JSON, columnar Parquet, spreadsheet files, SQL schema definitions, and XML. The format boundary matters, so do not choose only by the word "diff".

SQL Schema Diff is for comparing schema definitions rather than choosing a general data-document comparison. Likewise, Parquet Diff is the matching destination for Parquet inputs, while XML Diff is the destination for XML data.
