Edit Tools

Choose a file-editing tool for EPUB metadata, PDF metadata, PDF pages, or PDF watermarks.

Choose the right file-editing tool

These tools cover four different document changes. Use the EPUB Metadata Editor for information stored in an EPUB package, the PDF Metadata Editor for document-level PDF metadata, the PDF Page Editor for changes to PDF pages, and the Watermark PDF tool to add a text or image mark to selected PDF pages.

Metadata changes versus page changes

Metadata editors change document information rather than the content visibly laid out on a page. Choose the EPUB Metadata Editor when the input is an EPUB, or edit PDF metadata when the input is a PDF. If the task concerns the pages themselves, such as deleting, reordering, rotating, cropping, adding page numbers or headers and footers, handling annotations, bookmarks, forms, or placing an image, use the PDF Page Editor.

When to use a watermark, and what it does not do

Use the PDF watermark tool when you want to add a text or image watermark to chosen pages and control its placement and appearance. This is separate from page editing and metadata editing. A watermark is not redaction: it adds new content and does not remove the underlying page content or prevent copying.

The PDF Page Editor can place a signature image, but that image is only a picture on the page. It is not a cryptographic signature, does not provide identity verification, and does not create legal signing status.

Review document protection before editing PDF metadata

Before using the PDF Metadata Editor, check whether the document is encrypted or contains an existing signature. The tool warns about signed or encrypted PDFs, and changing metadata can invalidate an existing digital signature. Do not assume that a protected or signed PDF can be edited without consequences; review the resulting file when those protections matter.
