How the PDF page editor works
The PDF Page Editor combines ten modes: Delete, Reorder, Rotate, Crop, Page numbers, Header/Footer, Fill forms, Annotations, Bookmarks and Signature image. Load a PDF, stage changes across the modes, review the thumbnail previews, and review the automatically updated summary before exporting a fresh file. Page content is not rasterized or wholesale re-rendered, but targeted page properties and document-wide structures can change when the PDF is saved.
How to Use It
- Upload: Drop a .pdf file onto the drop zone. Its pages render as thumbnails you can inspect.
- Pick a mode: Use the tab bar to switch between Delete, Reorder, Rotate, Crop, Page numbers, Header/Footer, Fill forms, Annotations, Bookmarks and Signature image.
- Use that mode's controls: For Delete, Rotate, Crop and Annotations, click thumbnails to select pages. Those four modes also provide range inputs such as
2,4,7-9. Reorder uses drag-and-drop or its up/down buttons; Page numbers and Header/Footer use separate final-output page-range fields; Fill forms, Bookmarks and Signature image use their own controls. - Repeat across modes: Every mode's changes are kept and shown live on the thumbnail strip - rotated pages visually rotate, deleted pages gray out, crops show a dashed overlay, and badges mark numbering, header/footer, signature and bookmark targets.
- Review: The change summary updates automatically as you edit settings and page selections.
- Download: Download the edited .pdf and, separately, a plain-text change report.
Delete Pages
Click thumbnails or enter a range such as 2,4,7-9 to mark pages for removal. Deleted pages stay visible in the strip, grayed out, so you can restore them before exporting - they're simply left out of the final page order.
Reorder Pages
Drag a thumbnail to a new position, or use the up/down buttons on each thumbnail card. The order shown in the strip becomes the output page order - the underlying page objects and their content are moved, not redrawn.
Rotate Pages
Select one or more pages and rotate them 90°, 180° or 270°. Use Reset rotation to return the selected pages to zero rotation. The thumbnail preview updates immediately.
Crop Pages
Enter top/right/bottom/left margins in PDF points (72pt = 1 inch) and apply them to the current selection. A dashed overlay previews the crop box. This is numeric-margin cropping, not an interactive drag-crop UI. Keep the combined top and bottom, and left and right, margins within the page dimensions; excessive values can reduce the crop box to a minimal size.
Page Numbering
Add page numbers with a chosen position (bottom-center, bottom-right, top-center, top-right), a starting number, and a format string using {n} and {total} - for example Page {n} of {total}. You can restrict numbering to a range of the final output pages.
Repeated Headers and Footers
Stamp a plain text header and/or footer string onto every page, or a chosen range entered in the mode's final-output page-range field. Both are centered with fixed styling. This is separate from page numbering and is plain text only, not an image or opacity watermark.
AcroForm Filling and Flattening
If the PDF has AcroForm fields, they're listed with editable inputs matched to their type: text, checkbox, radio group, dropdown and option list. Fill in values and optionally flatten the form to bake those values into the page content and remove the editable fields. Not every PDF form is editable - XFA-only forms and unsupported or unreadable structures can be flagged. Button, signature and unknown field types are shown as not editable here.
Annotation Removal
Remove annotation objects such as comments, highlights, links and similar items from selected pages. The tool replaces the selected pages' annotation entries; it does not show an annotation count before applying the change. Form flattening affects the form globally, while annotation removal is page-targeted. If you are filling a form, flatten it first because the tool recommends that order for its form-widget handling.
Bookmark Creation
Add named outline entries pointing at specific pages. Bookmarks are rebuilt as a flat, top-level list; nested sub-bookmarks are not supported. Adding bookmarks may replace existing document bookmarks.
Signature Image Placement
Upload a PNG or JPG image, choose a target page, and enter X/Y position and width/height values in PDF points (X from the left edge, Y from the bottom edge). The tool does not constrain these coordinates or provide a page-position preview, so the image can be placed or sized outside the visible page. This embeds a picture, not a real signature.
A Placed Image Is Not a Digital Signature
Placing a signature image only draws a picture onto the page at a position and size you choose. It carries no cryptographic signing certificate, no identity verification, no tamper-evidence and no legal signing status. Use a dedicated digital-signature workflow when those properties are required.
What This Tool Does Not Do
- No content redaction - it doesn't black out or permanently remove visible text/images from a page (that's a dedicated redaction tool's job).
- No password or encryption removal - encrypted PDFs are detected and editing is blocked; this tool never attempts to decrypt a file.
- No guarantee every form is editable - XFA and unusual AcroForm structures are flagged, not silently faked.
- Never overwrites the original file - export always produces a new, separately named PDF.
- No image or opacity watermarking - page numbering and Header/Footer are plain text stamps only.
- No documented compatibility or maximum-file-size limit - the local implementation does not specify either.
Privacy & Security
Your PDF is processed in the browser, and the original file is not overwritten. Export creates a new PDF after the current automatic result is ready and you choose Download.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tool upload my PDF anywhere?
No. The PDF is read, edited and re-saved entirely inside your browser using pdf-lib and pdfjs-dist. Nothing is uploaded to a server at any point.
Will this overwrite my original file?
No. Your original file object is never mutated or auto-downloaded. The current PDF and settings are processed automatically; Download produces a brand new PDF file.
Can this edit an encrypted or password-protected PDF?
No. This tool never attempts to decrypt a PDF. If it detects encryption it warns you and disables editing - remove the password with the file's owner first.
Can this tool fill in every PDF form?
No. It can read and fill standard AcroForm text fields, checkboxes, radio groups, dropdowns and option lists. XFA-only forms, unusual field types, or forms this library cannot parse are detected and flagged rather than silently skipped.
Is the placed signature image a real digital signature?
No. It is a picture placed on the page at a position and size you choose, with no cryptographic signing certificate, identity verification or legal signing status.
Does this redact content or remove passwords?
No, neither. This tool doesn't black out visible content and doesn't remove or bypass PDF passwords or encryption.
