Choose how to provide the folder structure
Folder Tree Generator accepts either a selected folder or pasted relative paths. Folder mode generates the tree automatically from the folder input. Paste paths mode takes one relative path per line and requires you to select Generate tree; intermediate folders are inferred, and a trailing / represents an explicitly included empty folder.
Shape and filter the generated tree
After supplying the structure, you can configure the Folder Tree Generator for the output you need:
- Choose Unicode or ASCII branch styles, an optional root label, and one of three marker styles.
- Use natural ordering or input ordering, and include or exclude hidden files.
- Set a depth limit;
0means unlimited depth. - Enter comma-separated include or exclude patterns using
*and?wildcards. Patterns are matched against file names and full relative paths.
Review counts and take the result with you
The workspace reports node, file, folder, and maximum-depth counts. The rendered tree can be copied or downloaded as TXT, CSV, or JSON from the generator. TXT contains the rendered tree. CSV and JSON contain the current filtered and depth-limited manifest with path, type, and depth fields.
Know the input and validation limits
In pasted input, paths containing a .. segment or a drive-letter path are rejected with line numbers. Leading slashes are stripped before validation. An empty folder selection or empty paste input does not show a workspace. If filters remove every item, the workspace displays a no-items message with zero counts.
Folder mode depends on browser support for webkitdirectory, and folder input does not enumerate truly empty folders. To represent one explicitly, add it in Paste paths mode with a trailing slash. Review the Folder Tree Generator limitations before choosing the input mode.
What the generator does not inspect
The generator uses file and folder names and relative paths rather than file contents. It does not calculate storage analytics, rename, move, delete, or write to the selected folder. For a storage report instead of a hierarchy representation, use the Folder Size Analyzer.
