What This Tool Does
This tool adds a text or image watermark to selected PDF pages. You can set its position, scale, rotation, opacity, layer order, margins, and optional tiled repetition. Changes process automatically; click Download .pdf to save the current result.
How to Use It
- Upload: Drop a
.pdffile onto the drop zone. - Choose a mode: Select Text and enter Watermark text, or select Image and upload a PNG or JPG under Watermark image (PNG or JPG).
- Pick pages: Leave Page range blank or enter
allfor every page. You can also use entries such as1,3-5. - Set the appearance: Adjust Scale (%), Rotation (deg), and Opacity (%). Choose Position, then fine-tune Offset X / Y (pt) and the four margin fields.
- Choose layering: Set Layer order to Above page content or Below page content.
- Repeat if needed: Enable Repeat as a tiled pattern (instead of a single stamp), then set Tile spacing X (pt) and Tile spacing Y (pt).
- Review and export: Use the previous/next page controls to inspect the preview. The current result updates automatically; click Download .pdf when it is ready.
Text and Image Watermarks
Text uses the text you enter, your selected color, and Font size (pt). The text is embedded with the standard PDF Helvetica Bold font. Image accepts a PNG or JPG file. Both modes use the same position, appearance, layer, margin, and repeat controls.
Placement and Appearance Controls
Use the nine choices under Position to anchor the watermark. Offset X / Y (pt) fine-tunes that placement in points. Scale (%) changes its size, Rotation (deg) turns it, and Opacity (%) controls how strongly it appears. Margin top (pt), Margin right (pt), Margin bottom (pt), and Margin left (pt) set independent edge distances.
Layer Order and Preview
Layer order controls whether the exported watermark is placed Above page content or Below page content. The canvas preview always draws the watermark over the rendered page, so it is approximate and does not show the selected below-content order. Treat the exported PDF as authoritative, especially when using Below page content.
Repeat Pattern
Enable Repeat as a tiled pattern (instead of a single stamp) to replace one stamp with repeated watermarks. Tile spacing X (pt) and Tile spacing Y (pt) control the spacing. Position, offsets, and margins still affect the pattern.
Page Ranges and Validation Limits
Blank Page range input or all selects every page. Comma-separated page numbers and ranges such as 1,3-5 are supported. Malformed entries are rejected, and page numbers outside the document are skipped. A range that selects no existing pages cannot be exported; enter existing page numbers and check the Watermark summary after the automatic result finishes.
What This Tool Does Not Do
- Does not remove existing watermarks - it only adds new content; existing page content remains in the output.
- Does not redact content - this tool does not permanently remove content. An above-layer watermark can visually obscure content depending on its position, size, color, and opacity.
- Provides no copy protection - a watermark is a visual mark only. It does not encrypt the file, restrict copying or editing, or offer any legal or technical protection against reuse.
- No password or encryption removal - encrypted PDFs are detected and watermarking is blocked; this tool never attempts to decrypt a file.
- Never overwrites the original file - export produces a separate PDF and preserves the source page size. The output filename appends
-watermarked.pdfto the source filename.
Privacy & Security
The PDF bytes are read, rendered, watermarked, and re-saved in your browser. The local tool code does not upload the PDF to a server. The page loads pdf-lib, pdfjs-dist, and the PDF.js worker from jsDelivr.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tool upload my PDF anywhere?
No. The PDF is read, watermarked and re-saved entirely inside your browser using pdf-lib and pdfjs-dist. Nothing is uploaded to a server at any point.
Will this overwrite my original file?
No. Your original file object is never mutated or auto-downloaded. Changing the input or settings prepares a new PDF in memory; clicking Download .pdf saves it.
Does the watermark prevent copying or protect my document?
No. It is a visual mark only - it does not encrypt the file, restrict copying or editing, or provide any legal or technical protection against reuse.
Can this remove an existing watermark from a PDF?
No. This tool only adds new watermark content - it never detects, edits or removes marks already present in the file.
Does this redact or hide the page content underneath?
No. Original page content remains in the output, but an above-layer watermark can visually obscure it. This is not a redaction tool.
Can this edit an encrypted or password-protected PDF?
No. This tool never attempts to decrypt a PDF. If it detects encryption it warns you and disables watermarking - remove the password with the file's owner first.
