Speaker Notes Extractor

Open a PPTX file, preview the speaker notes found in numbered slide files, choose which ones you need - with optional slide titles and text context - and export them. Everything runs locally in your browser.

What does this speaker notes extractor do?

Open one .pptx file to read its speaker notes in your browser. The tool scans files matching ppt/slides/slideN.xml, sorts them by the number in each filename, and shows a selectable table with slide number, optional title, notes preview, and status. It does not use the presentation relationship order.

What gets extracted

  • Slide number comes from the numeric slideN.xml filename.
  • Speaker notes come from the linked notes part, with paragraph breaks preserved.
  • Slide title comes from the slide title placeholder when present.
  • Slide text context joins extracted non-title slide text with / . It is not truncated. Only the on-screen notes preview is shortened to 140 characters.

Understand note statuses

The table uses Has notes, Empty notes, and No notes section. Empty notes means a resolved notes part contains no extracted note text. No notes section is used when the notes relationship is absent, the referenced part is missing, or its XML cannot be parsed. Missing or malformed notes parts can also appear in the warnings shown above the table.

Preview, search, and select slides

Use the field with the placeholder Search slides and notes… to match slide number, title, notes, or extracted context. Include slide title controls the table’s Title column and title fields or headings in exports. Include slide text context affects TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, and DOCX exports; it does not add a context column to the preview table. Hide slides with no notes removes every row that is not Has notes, including both empty and unavailable note sections.

Use the row checkboxes to choose slides. Select all in view selects the rows currently visible after filtering, while Clear selection clears every selection.

Export formats and output fields

  • TXT and Markdown create one selected-slide section with notes or marker text for empty or unavailable notes.
  • CSV always has Slide, Notes, and Status columns. Title and Context columns are optional. Status values are has, empty, or none; Notes is blank for the last two.
  • JSON is a top-level object with source and slides. Each slide has slide, status, and notes, with optional title and context. Notes is blank when status is empty or none.
  • DOCX contains a heading and note paragraphs for each selected slide, with optional title and context. Empty or unavailable notes use marker text.

How to extract speaker notes from a PPTX

  1. Drop a PPTX file into the drop zone, or click browse file.
  2. Review the stat cards and any warnings.
  3. Use the display options, Search slides and notes…, and row checkboxes to find and select slides.
  4. Choose Select all in view or Clear selection as needed.
  5. Click Export TXT, Export Markdown, Export CSV, Export JSON, or Export DOCX.

What this tool does not do

This is a read-only extraction tool. It does not render slide layouts, shapes, or images; edit notes; write back to the PPTX; or extract author, revision history, embedded fonts, comments, or custom XML as speaker notes.

Privacy and limitations

The file is read and processed locally with the browser File API and JSZip, and the original is not modified. The tool accepts one file at a time. Password-protected or OLE/CFB-encrypted Office files are rejected. Invalid packages or packages without ppt/slides/slideN.xml files fail. Malformed slide XML may be skipped with a warning; missing or malformed notes parts may produce No notes section and a warning. The implementation does not define a maximum file size, maximum slide count, browser-support policy, or guaranteed handling for every PPTX variant.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool render or preview my slides visually?

No. It reads speaker notes and extracted slide body text; it never renders slide layouts, shapes, or images. Slide text context is extracted text, not a visual preview.

How does it tell an empty note apart from a slide with no notes at all?

Has notes means note text was extracted. Empty notes means a resolved notes part contains no extracted note text. No notes section is used when the relationship is absent, the referenced notes part is missing, or its XML cannot be parsed; missing or malformed parts can also produce a warning.

Can I edit the notes before exporting?

No. This is a read-only extraction tool - it doesn't provide editing of note text, and it never writes back to the original PPTX file. Select which slides to include and export a new file in your chosen format instead.

Does this tool upload my presentation anywhere?

No. The file is read and processed entirely in your browser using the File API and JSZip. Nothing is sent to a server, and the original file is never modified.
