Delimiter Converter

Convert a delimited table between CSV, TSV, semicolon-delimited, pipe-delimited, or a custom delimiter. Set or auto-detect the input dialect, preview the parsed rows, then choose an output dialect with explicit quoting and null handling. Values are never cleaned, deduplicated, or automatically repaired; specific quote errors and differing column counts are reported. Everything runs locally in your browser.

What this delimiter converter does

Use the Delimiter Converter to convert CSV, TSV, semicolon-delimited, pipe-delimited, or custom-delimited text. It reads the source with your selected input rules, previews the parsed table, and writes the result with the output rules you choose. The file and conversion are processed locally in the browser.

Choose the input format and parsing rules

  1. Drop a file into the left panel, select browse files, or paste delimited text directly into the right panel.
  2. Set Delimiter to Auto-detect, Comma (,), Tab, Semicolon (;), Pipe (|), or Custom.... Custom delimiters accept escape sequences such as \t, \n, \r, and \\.
  3. Set Quote character, Escape style, Header row, Encoding, Null marker (exact text), and Treat unquoted empty field as null. The built-in delimiter detection covers comma, tab, semicolon, and pipe; choose Custom... for another delimiter.

Review the preview and warnings

The preview shows at most the first 200 data rows. The displayed count can therefore be lower than the total parsed row count. When Header row is No header row, columns are labeled Column 1, Column 2, and so on.

Header Auto-detect uses a heuristic based on the first two parsed rows. Override Header row when the guess is wrong. The tool reports specific parser errors, including unexpected quotes inside unquoted fields and unterminated quoted fields. These messages do not necessarily stop parsing or disable Convert & download. Rows with different column counts produce warnings and remain exportable.

Set the output format and download the result

  1. Choose the output Delimiter, Quote character, Escape style, Quoting, Include header row, Newline style, Write null values as, and whether to Add UTF-8 BOM.
  2. Review the suggested File name. It is based on the source name and output delimiter, and you can edit it.
  3. When the current output is ready, use Download converted file. Export uses all parsed rows, not only the rows visible in the preview.

The output is created as UTF-8 text, with an optional UTF-8 BOM. The input Encoding setting controls how the source is decoded; it is not a separate output-encoding selector.

Understand null values and preserved text

Set Null marker (exact text) to interpret a matching unquoted value as null. You can also enable Treat unquoted empty field as null. On export, Write null values as controls the text written for nulls. Ordinary non-null cell text is re-delimited, but configured null representations may change by design.

For cells containing the output delimiter, quote character, or a newline, Minimal (only when needed), Quote every field, and Never quote (error if unsafe) determine the output behavior.

Limitations and local processing

This tool does not trim or normalize values, deduplicate rows, rename or reorder columns, convert JSON, or automatically repair input. It reports the quote-related parser errors it detects, while ragged rows are reported as warnings. There is no explicit file-size check in the page implementation, so practical capacity depends on available browser and device resources.

Files and conversion are processed locally in the browser and are not sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Will this tool change any of my cell values?

Ordinary non-null cell text is re-delimited. Configured null markers and unquoted empty fields may be interpreted as null and written using the selected null text.

What if my file uses a delimiter that isn't comma, tab, semicolon, or pipe?

Choose Custom... for the input delimiter and enter the character or short sequence your file uses.

How does header detection work?

Auto-detect compares the first two parsed rows. Choose First row is a header or No header row when you need to override that heuristic.

What counts as a parser error versus a warning?

The tool reports unexpected quotes inside unquoted fields and unterminated quoted fields as parser errors. It still returns parsed rows, so an error does not necessarily stop parsing or disable export. Different column counts produce warnings and remain exportable.

How many rows can I preview and export?

The preview shows at most the first 200 data rows. Convert & download exports all parsed rows.

Is there a file size limit?

The page implementation has no explicit file-size check, but practical capacity depends on available browser and device resources.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file and conversion are processed locally in the browser and are not sent to a server.
