How to compress supported documents
Use the tool for .docx, .pptx, .xlsx, .odt, .odp, and .ods files. It opens each document package in your browser and recompresses embedded media images when the replacement is smaller. Legacy binary formats such as .doc, .ppt, and .xls are not added to the file list. Processing stays in the browser.
Choose compression settings
The initial preset is Balanced, with displayed defaults of 70% Image quality and a 1600 px Max image dimension. You can choose Light, Balanced, Strong, or Custom.
Choose Custom to set Image quality from 10% to 95% and Max image dimension from 600 to 3000 px in 50 px steps. To derive settings from each file's original size, enable Target file size, enter Target size (per file), and select KB or MB.
Compress your files
- Drop files in Drop documents here, or click browse files to select them. Unsupported extensions are ignored and do not appear in the list.
- Choose a preset and adjust the available settings. If you enable Target file size, enter the target and choose its unit.
- Before processing, use the row's Remove action to take a file out of the list. This action is disabled while compression is running.
- Compression starts automatically when files and settings are ready. Files are processed sequentially.
- Review each row's Original, Output Size, Savings, and Status. An individual file can finish with an Error status.
Download the compressed documents
Download a successful result from its row, or choose Download all as ZIP. Individual files use the original basename followed by _compressed before the original extension, such as report_compressed.docx. The batch archive is named compressed-documents.zip and includes successful results.
Target file size limitations
Target file size derives image settings from the original file size; it does not measure the rebuilt file or retry compression. Its derived settings have floors of quality 20 and maximum dimension 600 px, so very small targets cannot force unlimited reductions.
Only embedded images are handled by the image routine. A document with few or no images may show little or no size reduction, and a replacement is used only when it is smaller.
Privacy and supported formats
Files are opened, recompressed, and rebuilt locally in the browser. The accepted formats are .docx, .pptx, .xlsx, .odt, .odp, and .ods; legacy binary formats are excluded.
Frequently asked questions
Does compressing a document upload my file anywhere?
No. Every file is opened, recompressed and rebuilt entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which file types does the document compressor support?
Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), and OpenDocument files (.odt, .odp, .ods). Legacy binary formats like .doc, .ppt and .xls aren't supported - save them as their modern equivalent first.
Will my document still be editable after compressing?
Yes - only the embedded images are recompressed and downscaled, so all text stays fully editable and searchable.
Why didn't my file get much smaller?
If a document has few or no images - mostly text and tables - there's little for the compressor to shrink. Results also depend on the embedded media and selected settings.
Is there a limit to how many documents I can compress?
The implementation does not define an explicit file-count maximum. Files are processed one at a time, and an individual file can finish with an Error status.
